Caretaker Education Minister Abbas Halabi stated that schools will reopen their doors after the Christmas and New Year holidays, “provided the situation allows.”
This decision was issued amid an administrative educational meeting held on Thursday, during which the state of schools across Lebanon was assessed following the departure of nearly 90% of families from schools used as shelters.
Many establishments had been used as shelters during the war between Hezbollah and Israel, hosting numerous displaced individuals who fled their towns and villages due to the hostilities.
Halabi stated that several institutions that did not suffer significant damage have begun renovation work, while others, in a more deplorable condition, require partial or complete restoration.
During the meeting, it was also decided that remote and/or in-person teaching will continue until the last day before the start of the end-of-year holidays, provided that the duration of teaching sessions does not exceed 45 minutes in either case.
