Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, said the government has taken “necessary measures” regarding the assassination of three journalists in Hasbaya, in south Lebanon, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has filed official complaints against Israel.

In a press conference held on Saturday, Makary affirmed that a complaint has been lodged with the High Commissioner for Human Rights and that a complaint will be lodged with the Security Council and UNESCO, stressing that the danger affecting the Lebanese press in Lebanon also affects the foreign press.

Makary stressed the importance of “investigating the crimes of the enemy and presenting them to the world to defend Lebanon, and archiving war crimes to provide evidence for prosecuting Israel before international courts.”

Additionally, he underscored the critical role of the media in the ongoing war, recognizing journalists as essential partners in conveying the truth amid escalating tensions. He lauded the dedication of Lebanese journalists, who, he said, “face numerous challenges, risking their lives to convey the truth.”

Addressing concerns over the spread of misinformation, Makary advised caution against falling for “false news, especially from the enemy,” as part of a broader call to safeguard civil peace. He encouraged journalists to refrain from interacting with online accounts that spread disinformation, noting the Ministry’s commitment to actively debunking false reports and establishing a platform dedicated to countering fake news.
