French President Emmanuel Macron said in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that the UN must play “its full role” in southern Lebanon to enable the return of civilian populations, the Elysée Palace announced.

The United Nations must “play its full role in southern Lebanon, to enable the return of civilian populations to their homes, in safety, on both sides of the border between Lebanon and Israel”, said the head of state. The President of the Republic asked the Israeli Prime Minister that “infrastructures be preserved, that the civilian population be protected and that a ceasefire be established as quickly as possible” in Lebanon, added the French Presidency.
