The Qatari Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lolwah bint Rashid al-Khater, arrived today Tuesday at noon at the military base at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut to inaugurate an air bridge of Qatari aid that will be sent to Lebanon in phases.
"Today, we launched the air bridge from Doha to Beirut. We expect to send 10 C-17 planes loaded with medical supplies, shelter materials, and food supplies within this month,” she added.
Speaking from the Grand Serail where she met with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, she pointed out that the support “will continue in the coming period” including several sectors.
She said that Qatar’s support is for “the national institutions of the Lebanese state, including the Lebanese Armed Forces, which play a crucial role locally and extends to the health and relief sectors."
Of note, two Qatari military planes also landed at the airport, carrying medical supplies and equipment, which were handed over to Minister of Health, Firas al-Abiad, and Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin.
Politically, the prime minister expressed his appreciation for the visit, highlighting the significance of Qatar's “continued support for Lebanon, especially during these challenging times.”
For her part, The Qatari minister conveyed "a message of solidarity and love" from Qatar's leadership, government, and people to Lebanon during these difficult times caused by Israeli attacks. She reaffirmed Qatar's firm stance on Lebanon's sovereignty and right to security, condemning all attacks on Lebanese civilians and criticizing Israel's expansion of the conflict beyond Gaza.
The minister called for a serious international response for an immediate ceasefire, and referenced earlier appeals by French President Macron and Arab states to stop arming Israeli forces in the ongoing wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
