- Two killed in Israeli Strikes in South Lebanon
Tensions persisted in southern Lebanon on Thursday afternoon following a morning marked by violence, notably in the village of Markaba, where two people, including a Hezbollah fighter, were killed by Israeli shelling.
Hezbollah announced Thursday night the death of one of its fighters in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a house in the village of Markaba, where another person who was critically injured, later succumbed to his wounds. At least 100 Hezbollah fighters have been killed since the start of the confrontations in south Lebanon on Oct. 8.
Also Thursday, following the bombardment of the Azziya hill, which houses a high-voltage network, the village of Taybeh was deprived of power, but maintenance teams of the state’s electricity company, EDL, were quick to repair the damage, restoring power to Taybeh and the surrounding area.
The area between Alma al-Shaab, Naqoura and Khiam was repeatedly the target of intensive Israeli artillery bombardment, punctuated by air strikes targeting the villages of Aitaroun and Maroun al-Ras. An Israeli Merkava tank also targeted a neighborhood in the center of Tayr Harfa.
For the third consecutive time in less than a month, the Israeli army targeted a home in Aita al-Shaab, belonging to Haidar Srour, which Israel considers to be a Hezbollah military base even though it was abandoned at the start of the confrontations.
Another home was targeted by Israeli aircraft in Hula, where initial reports indicated that one person was killed and another wounded.
Hezbollah announced that it had bombed several Israeli military positions during the day, including the Hounin position in the occupied Shebaa sector.
Earlier in the day, the Iran-backed party said it had targeted "a gathering of Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of the Shomera barracks" and the Yiftah barracks.
The Ministry of Communications issued a memorandum late Thursday afternoon to reconnect disconnected phone subscriptions and refrain from cutting off lines for subscribers who have delayed payments in the southern areas subjected to Israeli shelling. This includes the following districts: Tyre, Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun, Hasbaya and Nabatieh, until further notice.
