Syria on Friday welcomed the Canadian government’s decision to lift sanctions on Damascus, calling it a positive step that acknowledges the humanitarian and economic toll such measures have had on the Syrian population and key sectors of the country’s economy.
In a statement, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the move represents “an important milestone” in the gradual reinvigoration of Syrian–Canadian ties and could pave the way for a new phase of cooperation across multiple fields.
The ministry stressed that Syria is prepared to work “constructively” with international partners and engage in initiatives aimed at supporting economic recovery and reconstruction, arguing that broader cooperation would enhance regional and international stability.
According to the statement, the lifting of sanctions is expected to improve conditions for development efforts, humanitarian operations, and long-term stabilization across Syria.
