Yasser Abu Shabab, leader of the Popular Forces and one of Hamas’s main rivals in Gaza, was killed on Thursday under unclear circumstances.

Israeli media provided conflicting accounts: some reported the killing was carried out by Hamas members, while others claimed he died in family clashes in Gaza or from fire by members of his own group, according to Israeli military radio.

For its part, the pro-Hamas Telegram channel Al-Sayad, which specializes in tracking alleged collaborators, claims that Abu Shabab and several of his men were eliminated in a Hamas-led ambush. None of these accounts has so far been independently confirmed.
