The Israeli army carried out strikes on Thursday against several areas in southern Lebanon, after urging residents of certain localities to evacuate zones it says are used by Hezbollah.
Shortly before the strikes, the army’s Arabic-speaking spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, posted on X a first evacuation notice urging residents of Jbaa and Mahrouna to leave «immediately» the buildings marked on maps issued by the army, as well as adjacent structures, and to move at least 300 meters away.
«You are near buildings used by Hezbollah and, for your own safety, you must evacuate immediately,» he wrote, warning that staying in the area «exposes you to danger».
According to the army’s statement, the strikes targeted «Hezbollah military infrastructure» around Jbaa and Mahrouna, claiming the Shiite group was trying to «reestablish its presence» in these localities.
After the strikes, the Israeli army issued a second warning, this time targeting the villages of Majdal and Barashit, also in the Tyre district, calling on civilians to leave the designated areas.
Earlier on Thursday, an Israeli patrol dropped a sound bomb in the town of Odaisseh as employees of the Lebanese Electricity Company were crossing the area, adding to tensions along the border.
