Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced the arrest of Nemir al-Assad and Qossay Wajih Ibrahim, the former commander of the Mountain Brigade under the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad.

In a post on X, Khattab said, “Nemir al-Assad and his terrorist group, as well as the criminal Qossay Wajih Ibrahim, former commander of the Mountain Brigade” have been arrested.

He stated that these security operations represent “a new blow to the attempts by remnants of the former regime to sow discord in our coastal region, from provocative and intimidating publications two months ago to attempts to spread fear with weapons to destabilize the security and stability of the area.”

The minister emphasized that the vigilance and professionalism of his Ministry’s teams in monitoring and tracking thwarted the plot, reiterating that national security remains “a red line” for the Syrian state.
