- Iran: The Fall of the Mullahs?
For more than 40 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has projected its influence far beyond its borders, from Beirut to Sanaa, from Gaza to Baghdad. But after the wars waged by its proxies against Israel since October 7, 2023, and the 12-day war last June, one question remains: Can the clerical regime still hold?
This is the central theme of this 20-minute visual investigation produced by Ici Beyrouth and This Is Beirut.
The film combines archival footage, expert analysis and excerpts from speeches to explore the rise, power and fragility of a regime built on faith, weapons and fear.
Three Voices to Understand Iran
The documentary features three specialists offering complementary perspectives:
-
Alain Rodier, senior reporter and intelligence expert, analyzes the birth of the Khomeinist regime and the logic behind its revolutionary expansion.
-
Hanin Ghaddar, Lebanese researcher at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, examines the mechanisms of Iranian control through militias, from Hezbollah to the Houthis, and Tehran’s constant double game.
-
Fahimeh Robiolle, Iranian nuclear scientist exiled in France, reveals the inner workings of the nuclear program and the deeply totalitarian nature of a regime built on concealment. A teacher and activist for Iranian women’s rights, she is also the author of Femme, vie, liberté: Parlons-en (2023).
The documentary offers an in-depth look at a regime running out of steam and a reflection on the fragility of regional balances on the eve of a new cycle.
