In a statement issued Monday, Électricité du Liban (EDL) announced the launch of a large-scale campaign to dismantle illegal connections to the power grid.
According to the statement, the initiative, set to be implemented nationwide, aims to “ensure equal rights and obligations for all citizens” and addresses the “urgent need to preserve the institution’s financial balance.”
The campaign will be carried out “with the support of security forces wherever necessary,” with the goal of “reducing non-technical losses caused by illegal connections and ensuring a fairer redistribution of electricity across the country.”
EDL said the campaign responds to public demands and the requirements of international donors. The company pledged to publish regular updates on its progress.
“Violation reports will be issued without exception, and legal action will be taken against those who refuse to regularize their status,” the statement warned, while calling on the public to “facilitate the work of field teams.”
