Syria will strike several security and military agreements with Israel by the end of the year, a foreign ministry official told AFP on Thursday.
"There is progress in the talks with Israel," said the official who requested anonymity because they were not allowed to brief the media, adding that several agreements are expected to be signed "by the end of the year".
"Primarily, these would be security and military agreements," they said.
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said Wednesday that ongoing security talks with Israel could produce results “in the coming days,” describing a security agreement as a “necessity.”
Al-Sharaa added that if the security deal succeeds, it could pave the way for “other agreements,” but emphasized that “peace and normalization” with Israel are not currently on the table.
He also noted that Washington is not pressuring Damascus to reach an agreement with Israel.
