In Serbia, the young Lebanese biathlon team made a remarkable breakthrough at the Balkan Championship, winning four silver medals in both the men’s and women’s events. This result marks a real turning point for a discipline launched in the country barely two years ago.
Lebanon leaves Serbia with solid achievements in the bag. Paul Keyrouz took second place twice in the men’s events, in the 10 km and then the 7.5 km. In the women’s events, Jeanne d’Arc Tawk took silver in the 6 km and then the 7.5 km. Four podiums, two double medalists: the haul is clear and flawless.
The competition brought together 54 biathletes from Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, Bosnia, Bulgaria and Lebanon. In this strong regional field, the Lebanese athletes’ consistency in shooting and performance on skis made the difference, confirming the steady progress recorded over several months.
A strong sign: this is the first time Lebanese biathletes have reached an international podium outside the country, barely two years after the official introduction of the discipline in Lebanon. The goal is clear: to build on this success and firmly establish biathlon in performance routines.
Biathlon: A Guide
An endurance and precision sport, biathlon combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting (prone and standing). Each missed target comes at a cost: a 150 m penalty loop or added time, depending on the format. Resisting lactic acid… while keeping a steady hand: that’s the equation.
At the end of the events, the president of the Lebanese Ski and Biathlon Federation, Freddy Keyrouz, congratulated by phone the coaching staff — coach Huguette Fakhry and trainer Miroslav Serget — as well as the athletes, praising a foundational milestone on which to build the future. The objective now is to expand the base, structure training hubs in mountain areas and increase international outings to capitalize on this momentum.
