The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) continued its humanitarian and development initiatives south of the Litani River, complementing its core mission under UN Resolution 1701.
On Friday, Eastern Sector Commander Major General Ricardo Esteban Cabrejos inaugurated a rapid-impact education project in Ghandouriyeh, Marjayoun. The initiative benefits five public schools – Touline, al-Sawaneh, Qabrikha, Ghandouriyeh and Froun – by providing school supplies, solar panels and upgraded sanitation facilities to improve student well-being and learning conditions.
Speaking at the event, Cabrejos stressed that “children are Lebanon’s future” and reaffirmed UNIFIL’s commitment to supporting local development alongside its 16-month mandate.
In parallel, UNIFIL contingents carried out additional community support efforts. The Indian battalion distributed essential medicines to clinics in al-Fardis, al-Mari, Kfar Hammam, Shebaa, Kfarchouba and Helta, bolstering local health services. Meanwhile, the Malaysian battalion completed maintenance work on an ambulance in Halousieh, Tyre District, underscoring the importance of civil-military cooperation in serving local communities.
