The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced on Monday that the Lebanese Army has redeployed to more than 120 positions across southern Lebanon, reinforcing state authority in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

In a statement on X, UNIFIL said its peacekeepers are working “closely with the Lebanese Armed Forces to restore stability through patrols, exercises and coordination,” stressing that these joint efforts are enabling the army to expand its presence in the region.

The announcement comes in the wake of a September 5 cabinet session that endorsed the army’s plan to disarm Hezbollah and consolidate weapons under state control. While the government welcomed the initiative, it set no clear timeline for implementation and acknowledged that the army faces significant logistical and operational constraints.
