The Finance and Budget Committee, chaired by MP Ibrahim Kanaan, met on Thursday with Minister of Finance Yassine Jaber to review a draft law proposing a “fair settlement” for end-of-service benefits at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
The session brought together several MPs, along with representatives from the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Finance, employers’ associations and labor unions.
Following the meeting, Kanaan stated that discussions highlighted the impact of the economic collapse on the state, the NSSF and the private sector, particularly on employees and employers.
He stressed that members agreed on the urgent need to address the current legal void, which has fueled disorder, and to develop a gradual plan that considers the financial burden on all stakeholders while safeguarding workers’ rights and benefits.
