Samy Gemayel: 'Any Talk of Keeping Weapons Has Only One Purpose: To Trample on the Dignity of Others'

During the Kataeb Party’s commemorative ceremony in Sin el-Fil honoring the branch’s martyrs, party leader MP Samy Gemayel reaffirmed his rejection of illegal weapons in Lebanon, denouncing them as “tools serving foreign powers” that “have only been used to impose themselves on other Lebanese, to divide and to spread fear.”

Recalling that the Kataeb’s resistance was always limited to defending Lebanese villages and communities, Gemayel stressed that true dignity lies in equality among all citizens under the sole authority of the state and the army. He noted that the current era, marked by a clear institutional commitment to asserting sovereignty, leaves no justification for maintaining parallel arsenals.

Gemayel accused those holding illegal weapons of “dragging the country into wars that did not concern it” and undermining national cohesion. He reiterated his call to build a Lebanon based on sovereignty, neutrality, equal rights and the participation of all in the state, far from confrontational rhetoric and domination.

“We want to build a country for everyone, not reproduce the hatred and explosions of the past,” he concluded, calling for turning the page on internal armed conflicts to focus on Lebanon’s economic, social and institutional development.
