The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has welcomed the Lebanese government’s decision to place all weapons under the exclusive control of the state throughout Lebanon.
In a statement released Friday by the Qatar News Agency (QNA), GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf described the decision as “an important step toward strengthening the sovereignty of the Lebanese state, consolidating stability and security for the Lebanese people, and activating its institutions.”
Al-Hajraf emphasized that “progress on this path, coupled with necessary reforms, will significantly boost the confidence of the international community and multilateral partners, paving the way for a more attractive investment environment, including for the private sector.”
The statement reaffirmed the GCC’s continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, stability, and its reform efforts and state-building process.
It also stressed the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions related to Lebanon, particularly Resolution 1701 and the Taif Accord, to restore lasting security and stability, ensure respect for Lebanon’s territorial integrity, political independence, and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders, and extend government control over all Lebanese territory.
The GCC concluded that these steps will help meet the aspirations of the Lebanese people for a safer, more prosperous, and stable future.
