French President Emmanuel Macron will meet on Thursday at the Élysée Palace with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who is making his first official visit to France.
The two leaders will discuss security issues in Lebanon and the “major regional challenges,” according to an official statement published by the Élysée on Tuesday.
“The discussions will focus on the country’s security, stability, and the continuation of essential economic reforms necessary for the full restoration of its sovereignty and prosperity,” read the statement.
“The two leaders will also address the need for full respect of the ceasefire, especially regarding the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces,” added the statement.
Macron and Salam will also discuss the “major challenges facing the Near and Middle East, particularly the consequences of the wars in Iran and Gaza, as well as the recent clashes in Syria.”
They will emphasize “the imperative of a complete cessation of hostilities in the region to protect civilians and the absolute urgency of delivering massive, unimpeded humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.”
