The Lebanese Army dismantled a major Captagon factory in the town of Yammouneh, in the Baalbeck area, on Monday, in what authorities described as one of the largest drug facilities ever seized in the country.
According to a statement from the Army Command, the raid was carried out by a unit from the Intelligence Directorate, supported by military units. Inside the facility, troops found roughly 10 tons of machinery and equipment used in the production of narcotics, along with significant quantities of Captagon pills, crystal meth and other illicit substances.
A 300-meter tunnel connected to the plant, used for smuggling and storage, was located and filled in with the help of a bulldozer.
The seized items were handed over to the judiciary, which has launched an investigation. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to arrest those involved in the illicit operation.
