Energy and Water Minister Joe Saddi announced that he has proposed cancelling or suspending the recent increase in customs duties on petroleum products, which was approved by the Cabinet during its session on May 29.
“While I fully support the principle of providing financial assistance to all military personnel, both active and retired,” Saddi said on Monday, June 16, “I proposed in Cabinet to roll back this measure due to the exceptional circumstances caused by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.”
Saddi added that a formal proposal will be prepared and submitted to the government. He also recalled that he had previously called for this funding mechanism to be replaced by enhanced efforts to combat customs fraud and improve tax collection.
