Three Israeli attacks struck Tehran in quick succession on Friday night and Saturday morning, the latest episode in a major escalation of regional tensions.
The most recent attack targeted Mehrabad Airport, west of the Iranian capital. Thick clouds of black smoke were seen rising from the site, according to an AFP journalist on the ground.
Local agencies ISNA and Mehr confirmed an explosion in the area, broadcasting images showing columns of smoke rising from the airport, one of the largest in the country. The exact causes of the explosion have not yet been officially detailed by the Iranian authorities.
Tehran shaken
Earlier in the night, a first strike hit a sensitive residential area in the heart of Tehran, near a complex housing the residence of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior regime officials. The drone reportedly struck a residential building, triggering violent explosions heard in several neighborhoods of the capital.
According to the Tasnim news agency, loud explosions were heard in the Hakimiyeh and Tehranpars neighborhoods, east of the capital.
Israel confirms targeting nuclear sites
Meanwhile, the Israeli army confirmed that it had carried out a separate raid on an Iranian nuclear facility in the Isfahan region. According to Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee, Israeli fighter jets “attacked the Iranian regime's nuclear facility in the Isfahan region today.”

Explosion in Isfahan
Iranian surveillance channels and several local media outlets later reported an explosion in Isfahan, during a third wave of Israeli strikes. Air defense systems were activated in the region to deal with targets described as hostile.
At the same time, other air defense activations were reported in the western province of Kermanshah.
In addition, other Israeli air strikes were reported against a large industrial warehouse in Shahardang, not far from Tehran, causing major fires.
