In a striking and ominous message posted on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, declaring that the country must urgently return to the negotiating table on its nuclear program or face escalating destruction.
“I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal,” Trump wrote, criticizing Tehran for what he described as repeated failures to secure an agreement. “I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried or how close they got, they couldn’t get it done.”
Trump, who oversaw the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, warned that Iran had underestimated the consequences of its continued defiance. “The United States has the best and most lethal military equipment in the world, by far,” he said, adding that Israel “possesses a large arsenal with more to come – and they know how to use it.”
Trump underscored that Iranian hardliners who had previously spoken “bravely” were now dead, and ominously predicted that “it will only get worse.”
“There has already been great death and destruction,” he continued, “but there is still time to end this slaughter. The next planned attacks will be even more brutal.”
In one of the most dramatic lines of his post, Trump appealed directly to Iran’s sense of national legacy: “Iran must make a deal before there is nothing left and save what was once the Iranian Empire.”
Iranian and U.S. officials were scheduled to hold a sixth round of nuclear negotiations in Oman on Sunday. However, Tehran announced the talks would be canceled in response to Israel’s broad strikes targeting military and nuclear facilities, as well as the assassination of senior military commanders and nuclear scientists.
