Nineteen detainees escaped from the Ghazir police station in the Keserwan district just after midnight on Saturday-Sunday, in what authorities describe as a coordinated and premeditated jailbreak.

According to security sources, the group includes 13 Syrians, 5 Lebanese nationals and 1 Egyptian. The detainees reportedly breached the facility’s wall by cutting a hole through it, exploiting the reduced overnight staffing and lax security conditions.

The escape went unnoticed for approximately 90 minutes, giving the fugitives ample time to distance themselves from the scene before a full alert was issued.

The Jbeil detachment of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) managed to apprehend one of the fugitives, a Lebanese national, while the remaining 18 still evade capture. Search operations, supported by Army Intelligence units, have intensified across the region.

Authorities have launched an internal investigation into the escape, amid growing suspicions of negligence or possible complicity within the detention center staff.

The ISF has not yet released the names or charges of the escapees, and the investigation remains ongoing.
