In a significant address following his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Riyadh, Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa praised US President Donald Trump's decision to lift sanctions, calling it "historic and courageous."
Speaking in a live television address, Sharaa said Trump's move "was a historic and courageous decision, which alleviates the suffering of the people, contributes to their rebirth and lays the foundations for stability in the region."
Al-Sharaa began by recalling a previous visit to Riyadh several months ago, during which Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had promised that economic sanctions against Syria would be lifted. The president emphasized that this promise was now being fulfilled, noting the importance of this shift for Syria’s future.
He went on to underline the active role of Syrian diplomacy, which has been engaging in shuttle tours aimed at introducing the "new Syria" to the world. This effort is part of broader efforts to reintegrate Syria into the Arab fold, with al-Sharaa stating that "all Arab countries stand with Syria."
"Syria’s promising future begins now," he declared, acknowledging the country’s past alienation from Arab states and stressed that the country is now on a path to peace and development.
Looking ahead, the Syrian president made a bold pledge: "Syria will be a land of peace." He further committed to improving the investment climate within the country, with the aim of attracting capital for economic development.
