On Wednesday, the Anti-Smuggling Division of the General Customs Directorate, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, intercepted large quantities of agricultural products illegally smuggled into Lebanon.
The confiscated goods included 1,400 kilograms of tomatoes, 800 kilograms of green peppers, 1,200 kilograms of colored peppers and 3,500 kilograms of green plums.
The seized produce has been allocated to the Lebanese Army for distribution to military hospitals. Offenders were fined a total of 2 billion Lebanese pounds – double the estimated value of the smuggled items.
These efforts fall under a broader national initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture, aimed at combating agricultural smuggling and protecting Lebanon’s farming and livestock sectors.
The Ministry stressed that such measures are essential for safeguarding the country’s food security, supporting local farmers and ensuring that all agricultural products sold on the market comply with health and legal standards.
