On Friday, the Syndicate of Lebanese Press Editors marked World Press Freedom Day by honoring journalists killed or injured in the line of duty.
In a statement, the Syndicate called for justice, media reform and renewed commitment to journalistic ethics and independence.
Moreover, the Syndicate condemned the ongoing impunity for crimes against journalists. It stressed that attacks on journalists constitute crimes against humanity, and criticized international institutions for failing to act.
Reaffirming its commitment to press freedom, the Syndicate called on journalists to uphold independence, transparency and professional ethics, emphasizing that neutrality means adhering to the truth, not remaining silent.
It also renewed its demand for a modern media law to replace outdated legislation, one that ensures greater freedom, covers all media sectors and integrates journalism into Lebanon’s democratic and economic recovery.
“Freedom is the journalist’s essence,” the statement concluded, urging unity and resilience in the face of growing threats to the press.
