3. New US Sanctions List to Reportedly Target Lebanese Politicians

According to a Lebanese politician quoting an American official, “There is a new list of sanctions set to be announced soon, targeting political figures accused of corruption, others accused of financing Hezbollah, and a third group involved in money laundering and drug trafficking to fund the party.”

The official reveals that Hezbollah is in a financial crisis that may affect its members, as all its funding channels have been shut down—most notably in the Syrian arena.

According to the information, Lebanese political figures would be named in the sanctions list under the Magnitsky Act, which pertains to corruption. This is the same type of sanction previously imposed by Washington on Free Patriotic Movement leader Gebran Bassil.

The official says the announcement of these sanctions would take place during the upcoming month of May.
