- Lebanon Condemns Israeli Airstrike on Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

An Israeli airstrike targeted a Hezbollah warehouse in the southern suburbs of Beirut late Sunday afternoon. Thick smoke rose into the sky and was visible from various parts of the capital.
The attack was preceded by three mock strikes, following an earlier evacuation call issued by the Israeli army's Arabic-speaking spokesperson, Avichai Adraee, to residents of an area in Al-Hadath, in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
This marks the second Israeli raid on Beirut’s southern suburbs since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah at the end of November.
According to the Israeli army, Hezbollah was storing missiles and other weapons at the targeted site.
Lebanese Condemnations
President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, calling on Israel to immediately cease its violations and stressing that it is the responsibility of France and the United States to pressure Israel to halt its attacks.
The strike was also condemned by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The latter urged the guarantor countries of the ceasefire agreement to pressure Israel to end its aggressions and repeated violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as its security-related commitments.
The Foreign Ministry also assured that Lebanon will continue its contacts with "brotherly and friendly countries" to put an end to these violations and to demand Israel’s withdrawal from all remaining occupied areas and points in Lebanon, while reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701 in all its provisions.
Joint Israeli Statements
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz affirmed that "Israel will not allow Hezbollah to strengthen or pose a threat anywhere in Lebanon. The Lebanese government bears direct responsibility for preventing such threats."
In a joint statement, they emphasized that "the army struck hard at the infrastructures where Hezbollah was storing precision missiles," adding that "Beirut’s southern suburbs will not be a safe haven for Hezbollah."
Meanwhile, the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jannis-Hennis Pesschaart, urged all parties to halt actions that could jeopardize the ceasefire agreement.
