Under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani, Lebanon officially launched the AGRILAB project on Thursday at the Baakline station in the Shouf region. Developed in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation, the initiative seeks to modernize the country’s agricultural sector by equipping farmers with high-quality analysis tools and encouraging environmentally sustainable practices.

Speaking at the event, Michel Afram, Director General of the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI), emphasized the strategic importance of the project for the Shouf area and announced plans to establish a similar center in the nearby Aley region.

“This initiative is a key step toward improving agricultural practices and decision-making based on scientific analysis,” Afram said, highlighting the project’s role in advancing Lebanon’s agricultural resilience.

Minister Hani echoed these sentiments, noting that modern agriculture relies on informed, data-driven decisions. He also announced the launch of a new digital platform aimed at supporting farmers with real-time information and resources, marking a leap forward in the ministry’s push toward innovation.

The AGRILAB project forms a cornerstone of the Ministry of Agriculture’s 2025–2026 strategy, which focuses on revitalizing Lebanon’s agricultural economy, opening new market opportunities and promoting sustainability in response to mounting climate and economic pressures.

As part of the launch, attendees toured Baakline’s advanced laboratory facilities, which will serve as a vital resource for local farmers. The labs are designed to provide scientific support for agricultural planning and promote eco-friendly practices that safeguard the environment for future generations.
