President Joseph Aoun will travel to the Vatican on Saturday at the head of a Lebanese delegation to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday.
According to information obtained on Wednesday by the Al-Markazia news agency, President Aoun will represent Lebanon at the solemn ceremony, highlighting the historic and spiritual ties between Lebanon and the Vatican.
The funeral Mass for Pope Francis will be held on April 26 at 10 AM in St. Peter’s Square, as announced on Tuesday by the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff.
The liturgy will be presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals. Following the Mass, the Pope’s coffin will be transferred from St. Peter’s Basilica to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major for burial. Several heads of state and government have confirmed their attendance.
