During an official visit to Qatar, the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, met with Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. The discussions, described by the Emir as “historic,” marked a turning point in bilateral relations between Beirut and Doha.
During the meeting, the Emir of Qatar stressed the importance of Lebanon regaining stability and emphasized Qatar's commitment to helping Lebanon achieve it, both domestically and on the international stage. “Qatar is ready to provide Lebanon with everything it needs in critical sectors such as energy, in addition to continuing its support for the Lebanese army,” he said.
For his part, President Aoun expressed his gratitude for Qatar's continued support on more than one level, welcoming the Emir's commitment to further enhancing this cooperation, particularly following his election and the formation of a new government.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining civil peace in Lebanon. They also agreed on the need to implement the principles outlined in President Aoun's inaugural speech, particularly regarding the state's monopoly on the possession of weapons.
The meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, was followed by an official lunch hosted by Doha in honor of President Aoun and the accompanying delegation.
In a separate development, President Aoun also held a phone call with Jordan’s King Abdullah II to learn about the ongoing investigation into a missile-manufacturing cell uncovered in Jordan. Aoun expressed full readiness for coordination between Lebanon and Jordan, particularly on security matters.
He has also instructed Minister of Justice Adel Nassar to liaise with his Jordanian counterpart and facilitate information exchange through Lebanon’s security and judicial bodies.
