Prime Minister Nawaf Salam launched the airport road rehabilitation project on Wednesday, describing the road as “the first impression visitors get upon arriving in Lebanon.”

He also praised Middle East Airlines (MEA), saying, “MEA carries Lebanon’s beautiful image abroad and is as important as our embassies. It is a living proof of public-private partnership.”

Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny echoed the urgency of the project, stating, “Caring for the airport is incomplete if we neglect the road leading to it—it reflects the value of an entire nation.”

He also added that “the Ministry aims to complete the work within two to three months.”

To speed up progress, Rasamny stressed the importance of public-private cooperation and announced work on creating “a regulatory body for civil aviation and all ports contributing to state revenues.”

MEA Chairman Mohammad el-Hout said Lebanon is entering a new phase following the ceasefire, the election of Joseph Aoun as president and Salam’s appointment as PM. He added, “This period holds promise for improvement on many levels.”

El-Hout noted the Minister of Public Works’ commitment to revamping the airport, including lighting the road and redesigning the VIP lounge. “He gave us the names of those we should meet to execute the needed work,” he said.

He also thanked the Minister of Interior for efforts to regulate visual clutter, “We appreciate the efforts to curb random political advertisements on the airport road, bridges and tunnels. These public spaces should be free of political ads and reserved for organized commercial advertising.”
