Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has firmly dismissed speculation circulating in certain political circles regarding a potential postponement of Lebanon’s upcoming municipal and mokhtar elections. In an interview published Tuesday by al-Joumhouria, Berri described such a scenario as "entirely unacceptable and out of the question," emphasizing that no technical, logistical, legal, or political reason could justify even a minute’s delay.

As the elections approach, Berri warned against any attempt to amend the current legal framework governing local elections. He argued that now is not the time to consider changes to the municipal electoral law, as doing so could risk delaying the process—something he sees as contrary to the public interest.

As for Beirut, the Speaker underscored the importance of maintaining confessional parity within the Beirut Municipal Council. He urged all political actors to work toward safeguarding the balance between Muslims and Christians, which he views as a cornerstone of local stability.

Berri is currently holding intensive consultations with key stakeholders involved in the Beirut elections, seeking to establish broad consensus around mechanisms that will preserve and strengthen this sectarian parity.
