Tensions flared along the southern Lebanese border on Monday as an Israeli military unit advanced toward the banks of the Wazzani River, while a deadly explosion struck a Lebanese Army unit in the Tyre district, killing one soldier and injuring three others.
The Lebanese Army reported on its official X account that a specialized engineering unit was conducting a technical sweep in the Wadi al-Aziziyah area when a suspicious device detonated.
The blast killed one member of the unit and left three others with moderate injuries.
Simultaneously, using both military and civilian vehicles, Israelis crossed into Lebanese territory near the Wazzani River.
The Israeli military reportedly opened fire and conducted ground sweeps toward the areas of al-Hamid and al-Marj, near the village of Alma al-Shaab in the Tyre district, amid ongoing drone activity overhead.
Despite heightened security risks, a mapping team commissioned by the South Council continues to assess damage to buildings in the border towns of Naqoura and Chamaa.
The team reportedly escaped a deadly ambush set by Israeli forces, who had planted a booby trap inside a damaged house in Chamaa.
A Lebanese Army engineering unit has been dispatched to inspect and neutralize the device.
