Unstoppable. Relentless. Untouchable. The reigning FIBA WASL champions have done it again. In a packed and electric Nouhad Nawfal Arena, the Yellow squad tamed La Sagesse (100–85) and punched their ticket to the Final 8, finishing the round without a single loss.
They had one goal. And they achieved it.
“We wanted to secure our spot in the Final 8. Mission accomplished,” said Riyadi head coach Ahmad Farran, after yet another masterclass from his players.
Against a historic rival, and in a derby that’s always electric, Wael Arakji and his teammates once again showcased their basketball IQ, team strength, and ability to rise to big occasions.
Lofton on Fire… But Riyadi in Full Control
Credit where it’s due: Zack Lofton put on a massive performance, dropping 40 points on the reigning champs. The American warrior carried the hopes of the Green-and-White fans, well supported by Majok and Jalameddine.
But here’s the thing — keeping up with Riyadi is one thing. Doing it for 40 full minutes is another.
Led by Arakji (20 pts, 6 assists) and a surgical Georges-Hunt (27 pts on 10/17 shooting), the Beirut powerhouse gradually imposed its game and suffocated any resistance from La Sagesse as the minutes wore on.
The Road Gets Tougher for La Sagesse
Despite this loss, La Sagesse (3 wins – 3 losses) still holds on to a slim hope of qualifying, thanks to Amman United’s defeat earlier in the day.
But now, Ilias Zouros’ squad has no margin for error.
“We need to quickly recharge and bounce back. The game against Amman is crucial,” warned the Greek coach. Meanwhile, Riyadi marches on.
Undefeated leader of their group, already qualified for the Final 8, they’re heading for the continental summit — calm, confident, and in total control.
