President Joseph Aoun reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to implementing vital reforms and upholding UN Security Council Resolution 1701, during a meeting on Monday with the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL).
He also emphasized that structural reforms and the disarmament of Hezbollah are not only international and American demands but also priorities voiced by the Lebanese people themselves. However, he insisted that disarmament must be pursued through dialogue, not confrontation.
In parallel, he warned that the continued Israeli occupation of five strategic areas in south Lebanon would only further destabilize the situation, complicating prospects for peace and resolution.
Addressing security concerns, Aoun revealed that the Lebanese authorities have dismantled six armed facilities under the control of Palestinian factions operating outside refugee camps.
He made clear that the weapons discovered were either confiscated or destroyed.
