In a bid to simplify the administrative procedures for installing solar panels for personal electricity use of up to 1.5 megawatts, Lebanese Energy and Water Minister Joe Saddi announced that prior approval from his Ministry is no longer required.

This change, based on Law 462/2002, allows citizens to install solar panels without needing authorization from the Ministry of Energy. However, the installation of the metal structures supporting the panels falls under the jurisdiction of the Directorate General of Urban Planning, not the Energy Ministry.

Additionally, Saddi informed the Ministries of Interior and Municipalities, and Public Works and Transport, through an official letter, of this decision.

He also took the opportunity to urge Lebanese citizens to adopt renewable energy, highlighting its cost-saving and environmental advantages.

Furthermore, he reiterated his commitment to streamlining administrative procedures within the Ministry, ensuring that they remain in line with existing laws, and facilitating citizens’ access to essential services.
