No US official will be sacked after the spectacular security breach on a Signal messaging loop, where a journalist was mistakenly added while senior US officials were discussing upcoming strikes on the Houthis in Yemen, Vice President JD Vance assured on Friday.

“If you think you can force the President of the United States to fire anyone, you're barking up the wrong tree,” JD Vance told the media.

“We fully support our entire national security team,” he added, speaking from a US military base in Greenland.

The affair, which has been rocking Washington since Monday, was revealed by a journalist from The Atlantic magazine, who was mistakenly included in a discussion group on the encrypted application Signal, where top administration officials, including JD Vance himself, were talking about upcoming strikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The Democratic opposition, arguing that the lives of American soldiers could have been endangered, is calling for the resignation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

For his part, Donald Trump denounced a “witch hunt.”
