The union of contract teachers in Lebanon's public sector announced a warning strike on Wednesday, March 19, and Thursday, March 20, in response to a government decree and following Minister of Education Rima Karami's decision to raise the hourly rate while excluding contract teachers from the $375 summer productivity bonus.

On Wednesday, the union called on the government and Minister Karami to “find fair and equitable solutions so that teachers are not left in a precarious position during the summer.”

In an earlier statement, Rima Karami clarified that contrary to rumors, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education had not canceled the previously agreed upon productivity bonus, and that it would be integrated into the public sector teachers' salaries.
