In a message of gratitude to the faithful broadcast on Sunday from the hospital in Rome, where he has been receiving treatment for double pneumonia for over a month, Pope Francis expressed his thanks for the prayers and support he has received. "I am facing a trial and join many brothers and sisters who, like me, are sick and fragile at this moment," the pontiff wrote in the Angelus message published by the Vatican.

"Our bodies are weakened, but even so, nothing can stop us from loving, praying, giving ourselves, and being there for each other as shining signs of hope in faith," the Pope added, emphasizing the strength found in spirituality during difficult times.

The 88-year-old Argentine Pope also honored the hospital staff, expressing gratitude for their dedication and compassion: "May loving care illuminate the rooms, hallways, clinics, and places where the most humble services are provided!"

He also thanked his followers for their prayers and those who assist him with such devotion, offering special thanks to the children who are also praying for him.

Lebanon at the Heart of the Pope's Prayers

In the same message, the head of the Catholic Church urged the faithful to "pray for peace, especially in countries suffering from war: in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo."

Pope Francis is expected to remain hospitalized to continue his therapy, despite a gradual improvement in his health, the Vatican announced on Saturday evening. The pontiff has been staying at the Gemelli hospital in Rome since February 14, after bronchitis worsened into pneumonia affecting both lungs.

While his condition is now considered "stable" and his life is no longer at risk, he will need to continue receiving care at the hospital for an indefinite period, according to the latest official medical update released on Saturday. Pope Francis, who had the upper lobe of his right lung removed at the age of 21, suffers from respiratory fragility and has faced several health challenges in recent years.
