The government approved important military and security appointments during its ordinary session held on Thursday at the presidential palace in Baabda, chaired by President Joseph Aoun.
The new appointments are as follows: Brigadier Rudolf Heikal was appointed Commander of the Army, brigadier Hassan Shaker was appointed Director of General Security, brigadier Edgar Lawandos was appointed Director General of State Security Service and brigadier General Riad Abdullah was appointed Director General of the Internal Security Forces. They were all promoted to the rank of Major General.
The government also appointed brigadier Mershed al-Hajj Suleiman Deputy Director General of State Security Service. Following the session, President Aoun received the newly appointed security officials.
In another matter, the Cabinet approved a draft law to review fees in the 2025 budget, mainly those that the previous government wanted to impose on alcohol.
The government will convene an extraordinary meeting on Monday at the Baabda Palace to focus on key administrative appointments. Among the main topics of discussion will be the appointment of a new Governor for the Central Bank of Lebanon.
