In a new breach of Lebanese sovereignty, a group of Haredi Jews entered Qabr al-Abbad, a site within Lebanese territory near the border town of Hula, on Friday morning. The visit, organized by the Israeli army under the pretext of a religious pilgrimage, saw hundreds of Haredim performing rituals at the tomb of Rabbi Rav Ashi.
According to Maariv, approximately 900 Haredim were escorted to the site under tight Israeli military security. The visit comes after i24 News reported on Thursday that the Israeli army was preparing to facilitate mass Jewish prayers at the tomb, a large part of which lies inside Lebanese territory.
The site, located on the Sheikh Abbad hill, had previously been restricted by Israeli forces due to security concerns. However, the Israeli army has since reversed its decision, allowing the religious gathering to proceed despite the clear violation of Lebanon’s borders.
