To mark the 40th anniversary of Pont Neuf Wrapped by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, JR is transforming the Pont Neuf into a monumental cave in the heart of Paris, in September 2025. In collaboration with the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation, the artist once again pushes the boundaries of urban art.

Some artists change the world simply by existing. JR is one of them. His projects showcase an extraordinary level of creativity, brought to life on a monumental scale, turning cities into canvases filled with beauty and art. "Beauty will save the world," wrote Dostoevsky. And art is beauty.

In September 2025, JR, in collaboration with the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation, will unveil the Pont Neuf Project to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Pont Neuf Wrapped by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. JR’s vision is to transform the Pont Neuf into an enormous cave at the heart of the French capital.

It’s clear that JR has developed a fascination with caves in recent years. During the renovation of the Palais Garnier, he used the scaffolding to create a massive trompe-l’œil cave, evoking Plato’s allegory. Beneath the Parisian sky, opera singers performed while dancers enacted a love duet on the building’s façade. His creation seamlessly blended with the structure, the narrative, the music, the dance, and the captivated audience gathered at Place de l’Opéra, their eyes fixed skyward. His artistic interventions also include iconic Parisian landmarks such as the Trocadéro, the Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre.

A renowned French artist, JR is best known for his giant photographic installations in public spaces. Calling himself a "photograffeur," he believes that "streets are the world’s largest art galleries." His work fuses photography and graffiti, turning urban environments into vast canvases where he showcases large-scale black-and-white images. His art is accessible to a wide and diverse audience, engaging both locals and international visitors.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, JR’s works explore social themes, amplifying different narratives and shedding light on diverse communities. His installations never go unnoticed. A true multidisciplinary artist, he has also directed several documentaries and films, solidifying his impact on both the Parisian and global art scenes.

By pushing the boundaries of everyday art and taking over bustling public spaces, JR democratizes art and makes it accessible to all. His works captivate spectators, not only through their sheer scale but also through the depth and originality of their message. He redefines urban architecture, breaks conventions, and blends various artistic mediums—photo engravings, film, music, and theatrical performances—creating an immersive experience that speaks to the human spirit.

His social consciousness, artistic rebellion, and redefinition of urban spaces highlight the essential role of artists in society. JR restores art’s transformative power, building bridges—both literally and metaphorically—between different communities.
