Hezbollah held a funeral procession for Hashem Safieddine, former head of the party’s Executive Council, in his hometown of Deir Qanoun al-Naher in southern Lebanon on Monday.
Mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the senior Hezbollah figure, killed in an Israeli strike on October 3, 2024.
The funeral followed a mass ceremony held in Beirut on Sunday, attended by thousands of people, including delegations from nearly 70 countries, according to Hezbollah.
A tribute was also paid to the late Hezbollah Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli strike on September 27, 2024.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, reaffirmed Iran’s “continued support for Lebanon and the resistance movement.” He stated, “Iran will stand by the Lebanese people in the face of the Israeli regime.”
Hezbollah’s newly appointed Secretary-General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, hailed Nasrallah’s legacy, emphasizing his role in “reviving the Palestinian cause” and vowing that the group will “uphold his mission.”
