The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Lebanon’s security and stability, emphasizing that assistance to the Lebanese Army (LAF) will continue.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, the US State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs stressed that Washington remains dedicated to backing the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon and considers the Lebanese Army the sole legitimate guarantor of the country’s security.
This announcement comes amid reports and speculation suggesting a possible reduction or suspension of US military assistance. However, the latest statement from the State Department effectively refutes these claims, underscoring Washington’s support for the LAF as a key pillar of stability.
It is worthy to note that the US has been a primary partner in equipping and training the LAF, providing critical military assistance aimed at bolstering its capabilities in counterterrorism, border security and maintaining internal stability.
