After a seven-year pause, Shakira launched her highly anticipated world tour in Rio de Janeiro, delivering a thrilling show for her fans. Blending her greatest hits with tracks from her latest album Las mujeres ya no lloran, the Colombian star makes a triumphant return to the stage.
Latin music icon Shakira kicked off her first world tour in seven years on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, performing songs from her latest album, Las mujeres ya no lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which recently earned her a Grammy Award.
The Colombian singer, known for her eclectic style, set the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium on fire, captivating an audience of 46,000 with a mix of her greatest hits and new tracks from her twelfth studio album. Among them was Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53, a viral sensation on streaming platforms that references her highly publicized split from former Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué in June 2022.
“Music heals,” Shakira told the crowd, delivering a message of resilience. “Loving someone else is great, but loving yourself is even more important.”
“She went through such a difficult time in her personal life, reinvented herself, and now she’s stronger than ever. I think this concert is the culmination of that journey,” said Juliana Modenesi, who traveled 600 kilometers to see her idol live for the first time.
This marks Shakira’s first tour since 2018. She first rose to global fame in 2001 with Whenever, Wherever, a hit that launched her international career.
From pop to reggaeton, with touches of salsa and Dominican bachata, Shakira dominated the Rio stage for two and a half hours. Just days earlier, she had won the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album, a recognition she dedicated to migrants facing deportation under the Trump administration.
The Colombian star also thrilled the crowd with timeless hits such as Hips Don't Lie, Chantaje, and Waka Waka, the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
With over 90 million records sold and four Grammy Awards to her name—alongside a multitude of other accolades—Shakira remains one of the most influential Latin artists of all time.
Her tour will continue across Latin America, the United States, and Canada, with nearly 50 shows scheduled through the end of June.
