The 7th Brazilian Film Festival in Beirut brings acclaimed films to Metropolis Cinema from February 5 to 9, 2025, with free screenings.
The Embassy of Brazil in Beirut and the Guimarães Rosa Institute, in collaboration with Metropolis Cinema Association, present the 7th Brazilian Film Festival. The event will take place from February 5 to 9, 2025, at Metropolis Cinema, Mar Mikhael, Ashrafieh, Beirut.
This year’s program features a selection of acclaimed Brazilian films showcasing diverse genres and exploring themes such as Brazilian society, history and politics.
The festival will open with Portrait of a Certain Orient (Retrato de um Certo Oriente) (Fiction, 2024, by Marcelo Gomes). Adapted from Milton Hatoum’s book, the film depicts the poignant story of Lebanese immigrants in Brazil, weaving together memory, passion and prejudice. The plot follows siblings Emilie and Emir, who flee war-torn Lebanon in 1949 for a new life in Brazil, only to face personal conflicts, cultural challenges and tragic consequences. The film stars Wafa’a Celine Halawi, Charbel Kamel and Zakaria Kaakour and is co-produced by Sabine Sidawi.

The Battle (A Batalha da Rua Maria Antônia) (Drama, 2023, by Vera Egito): A gripping reenactment of the pivotal events of the Battle of Rua Maria Antônia in 1968, told through 21 sequence shots.
