Two Israeli airstrikes targeted the locality of Taybeh in southern Lebanon’s Marjayoun caza late Thursday afternoon, heightening tensions in the region.
The first strike hit bulldozers working near a Husseiniya (a Shiite place of worship), with the drivers narrowly escaping harm. The second strike targeted the town square near a police station, prompting residents to flee in fear of further attacks.
Meanwhile, an Israeli helicopter strike injured two people on the outskirts of Talousseh when a bomb exploded near their motorcycle on the road to Markaba. In Rmeish, two individuals inspecting their farm at the entrance to Qatmoun were also targeted by Israeli artillery, despite receiving assurances three days prior from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) that it was safe to return.
The Israeli army also carried out land destruction and machine-gun sweeps in Markaba, while similar operations continued in Kfar Kila and Talousseh.
Earlier on Thursday, and for the first time since the November 27 ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military announced that it had intercepted an information-gathering drone launched by Hezbollah from southern Lebanon.
Israeli army Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee confirmed the interception, stating that the drone was taken down by the Air Force without triggering warning sirens, “in accordance with military policy.”
“The Israeli army will not allow Hezbollah’s terrorist activities from Lebanon and will act to remove any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens,” Adraee wrote on his X account.
Meanwhile, Israel carried out detonations in the town of Talousseh in the Marjayoun district.
