Caretaker Energy Minister Walid Fayad announced that the Zouk and Jiyeh power plants are set to resume operations next week, a move expected to boost Lebanon’s electricity generation capacity to 800 megawatts.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Fayad noted that this increase would provide an additional two hours of electricity per day, offering some relief to Lebanon’s ongoing energy crisis.
He also stated that the reactivation of the power plants is part of the Ministry of Energy’s broader plan to address the electricity problem. He expressed optimism about the next phase, pointing out that measures aimed at reforming the sector are underway.
Additionally, Fayad revealed that the World Bank has approved its first investment financing for Lebanon’s electricity sector, amounting to 250 million US Dollars. The funding will be allocated to upgrade infrastructure, a step he described as vital to achieving sustainable improvements.
